Today we are reviewing Handy Keylogger created by WideStep Security Software.
So, we double-click the installation file, read the warning about the anti-viruses and anti-spyware tools that should be disabled during the period of installation, read and accept EULA, create the "unhide keyword" and click "Install" button. Few seconds later we click "Finish" and see the screen explaining us how to use our "unhide keyword". After that we create a new password for Handy Keylogger, confirm it and finally see its interface.
The interface of Handy Keylogger combines simplicity and goodliness — the main window has 4 tabs, namely "Preferences", "View Logs", "Clear Logs" and "About", the content of which is fully consistent with their names. The log files are opened in the default browser and also really pleasant to look at — each event has its own timestamp, name of the application it happened in, the path to this application, corresponding PC and users' names. Another handy thing - the information is grouped into 4 categories "Keystrokes", "Snapshots", "Clipboard" and "Web-activity", thus allowing the user to quickly look through only the type of activity he is interested in.
Among the positive moments of the program we can also highlight the ability of log-files' sending to a pre-specified e-mail, multi-OS support (the program works under almost all the platforms listed in our comparison table) and the ability to intercept the graphic content of the clipboard. It is also really good that despite the fact that Handy Keylogger is not the most powerful monitoring solution of WideStep Security Software it also has the basic means of visual surveillance.
Unfortunately, among the pluses there are minuses in functionality of Handy Keylogger. They are: weak URLs' interception (URLs are intercepted only in Internet Explorer), zero file-activity monitoring and only one-side chat conversations' interception.
As for the "Filtering options" section, the situation is pretty much the same: it is impossible to configure the program to monitor a list of pre-specified users or programs and there is no monitoring scheduler in it. At the same time the program has such functions as "Maximum log-files' size", "Automated clearance of log-files" and even "Several days report building" implemented.
Summing up we can say that Handy Keylogger is a very easy-to-use keylogger that will be a very good choice in case you value simplicity and user-friendliness.
