In order to install PC Spy Keylogger we pass through the following windows:
Welcome → Select Destination Location → Select Start Menu Folder (with an option of not creating a folder in Start Menu) → Select Additional Tasks (where we can mark "Create a desktop icon" if necessary) → Ready to Install → Finish (where we can set PC Spy Keylogger to launch once we press "Finish" button).
Once the installation is finished, an icon of PC Spy Keylogger appears in System Tray. We click it and the main window of the keylogger opens. The main window contains two rows of buttons: those, located in the left part of the window, open the "Options" window, while those, located in the center of the window, allow us performing some of the actions with the keylogger, such as starting it, stopping, etc.
"Options" window, allowing us to configure the logging process, is also separated into two parts. All the configuration options are grouped into categories and their list is shown in the left part of the window. Clicking any of the buttons representing a category opens the corresponding list of configuration options available in the main part of the window. Very handy.
Unfortunately, the interface of PC Spy Keylogger Log Viewer is not as good, as the one of its "Options" window. Despite it is also divided into two sections, the information is almost not organized. It is grouped only per days, but not per its type, so the tiny left row contains only the list of dates, while the main part of the window has all the information logged in the same order it has been logged, without any grouping.
PC Spy Keylogger neither supports Windows 8, nor Windows 7, nor Windows Vista, yet can be launched on the rest of the operating systems taking part in our testing.
This keylogger allows its users to protect it with the password, access it by pressing the hotkey combination and configure the warning message to be shown the users having PC Spy Keylogger installed on their PCs. Unfortunately, its folder is not hidden, it can't be installed remotely, accessed by typing a keyword, and be configured to automatically uninstall on a pre-specified date.
As for "Monitoring", PC Spy Keylogger seems to log only basic information: typewriter and system keys pressed, clipboard content, files opened and applications started. It also can make screenshots and allows its users adjusting their frequency and quality.
Unfortunately, it doesn't log the rest of file activities, system log on/off and inactivity time, mouse-clicks and printed documents.
"Online Monitoring" is a section PC Spy Keylogger has nothing to show — it doesn't log visited URLs, doesn't intercept sent and received emails and logs only one side of chat conversations in messengers.
PC Spy Keylogger can be configured to monitor only users from a pre-specified list, and allows its users to perform a search in log files. It also can deliver the log-files by all the means that are present in our testing except flushing them to a portable device. It also can't limit size of a log-file, clear it automatically and log applications from a pre-specified list only.
PC Spy Keylogger can react to a specific keyword and can block the programs from starting. Unfortunately, it can't do the same with web-sites, can't work on schedule and the only language it is available in is English.
Summing up we can say that despite PC Spy Keylogger lacks many features and doesn't support modern operating systems it still can be used for monitoring of old computers at home.
