When installing Actual Keylogger, we passed through the following windows:
Setup Language (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Korean, Chinese, Japanese) → Welcome Window → EULA → Ready to Install → Finish.
The installation path by default: c:\ProgramData\Actual Keylogger and c:\ProgramData\{AKC34567-KCQR...}
After Finish button is pressed, Settings Wizard launches. Set the following functions, pressing Next button to move to the next screen:
Log delivery settings → Screenshots settings → Startup & Hide settings → Website black list → Social Networks and IM lists.
If you select Hide everywhere in Startup & Hide settings, after pressing Next button a few scripts will be launched, which will take action to hide the program, namely: make ProgramData folder invisible, as well as delete shortcuts from the desktop and commands.
After all settings are made, the main program window Actual Keylogger of will be launched, with a message about the program being a 5-day trial version and information about the monitoring product.
The interface of Actual Keylogger is similar to that of most keyloggers, although there are a few differences.
In the upper part of the window there is a menu bar; below are the icons for the following functions:
There are two icons for switching between modes - Event Log and Settings; Start\Stop monitoring, Home page, Wizard (settings), Help, and Buy Now (for the trial version). To the right from this menu there are icons for the keylogger window: Hide, Minimize, and Exit.
Event Log window looks pretty like most of such windows in products of this kind:
Like typical keylogger interfaces, the main window in this produce is split into two sections: the left column and the main part. The left column is divided into the following sections:
Keyboard events, Screenshots, Clipboard value, Web Pages visited, Search Queries, Alerts, Site blocker, Social network activity, Messaging apps, User activity, and Programs activity.
In the main part, the list of events is displayed; each of them has a timestamp and a description.
Unlike typical keylogger interfaces, when Settings icon is tapped, the categories appear in the left column; the user selects a category, and the options are displayed in the main part.
Now let's talk about the test results of Actual Keylogger.
As for the OS Support, the developer's website says that Actual Keylogger runs on Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/7/Vista/8/10.
We tested it on Windows 10; in general, all Actual Keylogger's functions worked well. The only problem was that hotkeys occasionally failed, and so did "akstart" in cmd. In the latter case, we had to launch Actual Keylogger from the setup folder.
As for the security, Actual Keylogger has a high level of security. Most of the functions from our evaluation criteria are implemented, except Pre-configured Installation, Accessed by keyword, Configurable warning message. Accessed by hotkey combination can be set, but set as default - Ctrl+Shift+Alt+F7. In Windows Task Manager the process is named System component, so for an average user it would be pretty difficult to find and stop the process. Built-in Windows protection didn't detect any Virus or Malware during the download and install.
As for the monitoring, Actual Keylogger's set of functions is relatively small; however, the product stands out stands out among others by tracking computer usage time - System logon, logoff, inactivity time. We did not notice file tracking here - this activity can be observed only on screenshots, which is not enough. Typewriter keys pressed are recorded, but System keys are not.
As for the online monitoring, it's Actual Keylogger's strong point. We were impressed by the option, which allows to configure the list of Social network and Messaging apps, so that they are monitored separately under the criteria set separately for each one. Also, users can set a Black list of website Categories (Adult sites, Games, Social networks, etc.), URLs and words. Actual Keylogger monitored all messages in all chats and browsers we used, but didn't notice the email sent via ThunderBird.
As for the reports, Actual Keylogger can be configured to monitor certain users, as well as to deliver monitoring reports to your email address, FTP, Dropbox and Google Drive account, or to a shared folder in local network. Although, the keylogger can't copy log files to a portable device. The product also offers Automated clearance of log-files.
As for other functions: Actual Keylogger is available on 12 languages, which distinguishes it from its competitors. This keylogger is also capable of blocking websites, although it doesn't support block programs. Users can configure the Monitoring scheduler. Well, it's too early to talk about Top seller, but time will show.
Summing it up, although Actual Keylogger isn't among the most powerful monitoring products, it could come in useful for some users. It has two strong points: online monitoring and security. It's well hidden and offers many options when it comes to delivery of monitoring reports.
The trial period is relatively long - 5 days. So, it's a pretty good keylogger for home pc monitoring, and parental control tool, which will effectively monitor Internet activity
