XPC Spy Pro Review
Despite the lack of some functions this keylogger is recommended for employee monitoring and monitoring of your home PC. It doesn't support Windows 7 and Vista, so should be used on XP or 2000. In our testing, it gets 448 out of possible 1172 points.WARNING! This keylogger is no longer supported by its developers! Proceed to monitoring software review page to choose another one.
Advantages:
- Grouping of the intercepted information into categories
- Great file-activity monitoring
Disadvantages:
- Weak links' interception
- Not enough stealthiness level
As usual let's begin our review from the installation process. The only thing that you should do to install this keylogger is to read and accept EULA. That's all — there are no different modes of installation, no additional questions. The program doesn't ask to specify the folder of installation (we have found it afterwards, so XPC Spy didn't receive maximum points for stealthiness), though all the other signs of program's presence on the PC were hidden greatly — no processes in Task Manager, nothing in start menu, hidden installation folder. After the program installation there appears a window asking you to create a password, then the new pack of windows appears one by one, asking you to configure the items to log, to specify the hotkey, place for log-files saving, etc, etc. It is clear that the abundance of pre-options cannot be considered as a strong side of any of the keyloggers. The window asking for a PC to reboot is also not a plus for the software…
The interface part looks quite nice, it's very convenient when the intercepted information is not only grouped into categories, but each category also has its own icon, so the interface part of the keylogger leaves only positive emotions.
As to product's functionality, XPC Spy Pro has neither anything to boast of nor can it be considered inferior to others. What should be emphasized is a great file-activity monitoring — not only all the actions except copying are logged, the impressive thing is that while logging the files' renaming, XPC Spy Pro logs both names of the file — the initial and the final one. It should be noted that the negative side is a very weak URLs' interception — all the browsers, except IE, show us nothing in the log-file, there are even no headlines there. Unfortunately, XPC Spy Pro now intercepts only one side of chat conversations made in AIM, YahooIM and Skype. As for ICQ and MSN messengers, the result is still great — both sides of all the conversations are intercepted.
Summing up we can say that XPC Spy Pro firmly holds an average rating. It will come in handy to any user provided that there is no need to install it "in a hurry".
